Newsletter for November 2000
------------------------------------------------------------------
Vi'tanje & Powitanie! (Welcome!) And Happy Thanksgiving Weekend for all
in the U.S. and a month late for those in Canada!
We will not be sending the rest of the "Slovak Pride" listing of
surnames in our newsletter as the list even in four parts is too long and
some TARG members are having trouble receiving it. We may post it on our
upcoming website, but you can contact Helene B. Cincebeaux and arrange for
the full copy mailed to you.
Helene is also the one to contact about the August special
2001 Tatra-Goral Tour. Many have already signed up, I am told. Seats are
going fast.
***How to contact Helene Baine Cincebeaux:

WEBSITES____________
1. Our new listing of the 803 TARG Villages (with coordinates) is available
for viewing on our Delphi site at: http://members.delphi.com/pkbingham/index.html

BOOKS______________
We have talked about the new hardcover reference "The Slovak-Polish Tatras".
This is an absolute MUST HAVE for anyone with ancestors from the TARG
region. It is 354 pages in length and full of photos and maps. It also has
histories of many of the TARG villages found nowhere else. I brought home
four copies of the new book last Fall and promptly had three snatched by the
first three people who saw it. The fourth I will not let go of.
Several of us have tried to contact the Slovak publisher Dajama about
ordering the book either in bulk or by check or money order. We have heard
nothing back. The publisher has a website, but no one of us in TARG was
brave enough to send their Visa card number across unknown cyberspace to
order a copy that way -- the only option they offer.
A book seller named Jan in Zvolen, SK has a pretty good track record for
selling and shipping books to the U.S. He can get copies of this
"Slovak-Polish Tatras" book in English and will ship it to you, generally in
a matter of weeks for $31 U.S. which includes shipping. He has a daughter
who is a doctor in Ohio. Some have sent checks to her, which she puts in his
account. He also has copies of "Nazvy obci Slovenskej Republiky" (Historical
Names of Villages of the Slovak Republic from 1773-1997), cost: $25 U.S.
which include shipping and the MUST HAVE Podrobny Auto Atlas (scale of 1:100
000), cost: $25 U.S. which also includes shipping.
Jan's email address is: look-imp@stonline.sk

VISAS FOR POLES & SLOVAKS____________
A few issues ago we discussed how to write a sponsor letter so a relative
can get a Visa to visit the U.S. I am very happy to report that I followed
my own advise and my cousin Lucjan was just granted a Visa valid for the
next ten years based on a letter I wrote for him. Needless to say he is
delighted, as are we! If you missed that issue, just e-mail me and I'll send
you an e-reprint.
